Her story

Shelly's Story

A woman of deep faith, fierce love, and loud and vibrant strength — this is who Shelly is, and why so many hearts are walking this road beside her.

Shelly

Who she is

More than a diagnosis

Shelly Merenda is the kind of person who makes every room more joyful just by being in it. She is a devoted mother of three beautiful kids, a loyal friend, a woman whose faith has been the bedrock of her life long before illness ever entered the picture. Those who know her will tell you the same thing: Shelly shows up — for her family, for her community, for anyone who needs her.

Her laugh is contagious. Her generosity is rampant. She has spent years pouring herself into the people she loves, and now — in one of the hardest seasons of her life — those same people are pouring right back.

Her faith

Rooted in something deeper

"I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand."

Faith has never been a Sunday-only thing for Shelly. It is woven into the way she speaks, the way she loves, the way she faces hard things. She prays with intention. She trusts with her whole heart. And in the weeks since her diagnosis, that faith has been her rock.

She finds comfort in the saints, in the rosary, the prayers of her Household - Ave Stella Mariae.  She believes in healing. She believes in miracles. And she believes that every prayer offered on her behalf is heard.

Her family

The people who hold her up

At the center of Shelly's world is her family. They are her reason, her joy, her greatest source of strength. Through every appointment, every treatment, every hard day and hopeful one, they have been right beside her — steady, loving, and unshakeable.

She speaks of them with a tenderness that says everything. They are not just her support system; they are her heart walking around outside her body.

Her journey

Facing thymus cancer with courage

In September, Shelly received a diagnosis of thymus cancer — a rare and serious illness that would change the rhythm of her days. But it has not changed who she is. She is approaching treatment with the same grace and determination she brings to everything: one day at a time, one prayer at a time, one act of love at a time.

Thymus cancer is rare, and the road is not easy. But Shelly is not walking it alone. She is surrounded by a community of people who believe in her, pray for her, and show up for her in every way they can.

"She is braver than she believes, stronger than she seems, and more loved than she will ever know."

A note of gratitude

"Strength doesn't mean going it alone. It means letting others walk beside you. Thank you for being here."
